Black walked through the doors to the garage as he exited the building. Warfare was just about over and Black thought that he would get out before the Universe let out. He walked slowly through the garage with his bag rolling behind him. Before he could get to his rental car, an EBWF.com cameraman walked up beside him. He looked over his shoulder as the cameraman spoke up.
"PJ!!! Hey PJ!! What do you think of the bombshell dropped tonight by Edge?"
.ebwf.com//CAMERAMAN
Black stopped in this tracks. He let go of the handle of his bag and let it sit on its on. He turned to the cameraman and closed his eyes. Before he answered he opened his eyes and looked at the camera.
"What bombshell would that be?"
.darewolf//PJ_BLACK
"Him giving up his chance to face you at Sacrifice to Enzo."
.ebwf.com//CAMERAMAN
"It's that really considered a bombshell now-a-days?"
.darewolf//PJ_BLACK
Black's eyes narrowed as he looked into the camera confused.
"The US government is in shambles. North Korea is on the verge of ending the World. Great musicians are dying left and right. But no. Edge giving up his shot at the EBWF World Championship is the headliner?"
.darewolf//PJ_BLACK
There was silence as Black looked at the cameraman behind the camera.
"Let me set this straight right here. I could go on and on and say that Edge is scared. He doesn't want anything to do with him. I could say that I beat him so many times, knocking out of countless King of the Ring tournaments in my day, but you know what...
None of that matters. Obviously things are running wild in EBWF if the employees are able to go around giving away title matches and making new ones. I mean, don't we have someone in charge that is suppose to do that? What's his name? Chris Jericho? No, no... Maybe this came from further above Jericho. Maybe it was Wes. Could have been Trish Stratus. Maybe Randy Orton makes the decisions now. Who was that Make-A-Wish kid sitting front row tonight? Maybe he's the new guy in charge."
.darewolf//PJ_BLACK
Black shrugged his shoulders, obviously making jokes.
"Look, call it a bombshell. Call is a blockbuster announcement. Call it whatever you want. Edge gave up his shot to Enzo, big deal. It doesn't matter who I'm facing at Sacrifice, because the outcome is going to be the same regardless. I'm going to walk into Sacramento as the EBWF World Championship. I'm going to defend my championship, successfully. Then, no matter who is on the opposing side of me, I'm going to beat them. I'm going to climb to the top turnbuckle and I'm going to land a "450 Splash", I'm going to get the three count, and I'm going to walk out of Sacramento, California still... The EBWF World Champion."
.darewolf//PJ_BLACK
Black was about to turn around to walk away before the cameraman came with another question.
"You sound very confident considering Enzo beat you last week."
.ebwf.com//CAMERAMAN
Black stopped dead in his tracks. He took a deep breath as his head fell. He shook his head from side to side slowly. After a few seconds, Black turned back around to the camera.
"Was that a joke you just said?"
.darewolf//PJ_BLACK
"I said Enzo beat you last week."
.ebwf.com//CAMERAMAN
Black chuckled as he gave a quick nod.
"Last week, Enzo beat him. There's no denying that, there's video evidence of that. But you see, last week, it was Warfare. Do you know what Warfare is kid? Don't answer that. Let me tell you what Warfare is. On Warfare, what happens, it doesn't matter.
No body remembers the matches that take place on Warfare. I mean can you tell me who was in, or better yet,
who won the main event of the January 27, 2014 episode of Warfare? No? Neither can I. Do you know why?
Because it doesn't matter. None of this tonight. None of the matches that happened tonight, last week,
or even last month. None of them matter because they're not important. Warfare is booked by some brainy writers in the back picking names out of a hat and being like, Matt Sydal will face Bobby Rhode. There's no thought process to it. There's no planning. There's no build. There's nothing."
.darewolf//PJ_BLACK
He took a pause, but before the cameraman could come back with a comment, Black spoke back up.
"So last week, creative wasn't like, "Let's have Enzo make a run at the championship." Instead, they were like, "PJ needs someone to fight, let's give him Enzo, he hasn't demolished him yet." That's how that went down."
.darewolf//PJ_BLACK
"But you didn't demolish Enzo, he beat you."
.ebwf.com//CAMERAMAN
"Look kid, you're not getting the point that I'm trying to make here. The fact that Enzo was in the match to begin with, was a joke. He was just a space filler because I've already shown that I can beat everyone else on this roster. So that fact that Enzo beat me last Monday, it doesn't matter. Sure, he got an extra dash in his win column at my expense. Does that mean that he's better than me? Contrary to everyone's beliefs in the locker room, no it doesn't. Does it give him the advantage going into Sacrifice? No, it doesn't. Let me put it this way. Let's look at other sports for a second. In the NFL, if let's say the Cleveland Browns beat the New England Patriots in a pre-season game, does that make Cleveland better than New England? If the Avalanche beat the Penguins this upcoming NHL preseason, does that mean that the whole post season this year was a sham? If Little Timmy Two Toes hobbled to a victory over Usain Bolt, would that make him the fastest runner in the World? In case you don't know the answers to all those, it's no. Just like the fact that Enzo Amore beating me on Warfare,
doesn't mean he's better than me. It was only preseason, and come Sunday at Sacrifice, the real season starts. And everybody knows what happens when the season starts... "Big Match Black" can't be stop."
.darewolf//PJ_BLACK
With those final words and before the cameraman could ask anything else, PJ turned away and walked towards his rental car.
The St. Louis traffic hustled outside as the energy inside the nicely furnished room inside EBWF Headquarters where the Executive Vice President of Talent Relations, Jim Ross, sat comfy in a black leather chair. The room was littered with fake plants. Bookshelves full of books and knickknacks lined the wall in the background. Beside Jim Ross was a very special guest, the EBWF World Champion, PJ Black. Like JR, Black sat back in a leather chair. His EBWF World Championship belt sat proudly on his lap. A backwards baseball cap held PJ's hair back out of his eyes. The rest of Black's attire matched that of Jim Ross, black straight-legged slacks and a white button down t-shirt under a black suit coat. As the two sat there, Jim Ross was the first to speak out.
"Good evening ladies and gentlemen, it's been a long while since I've had a close and personal sit down with an EBWF Superstar, but coming from a personal request by my guest tonight, I agreed to sit down with him and discuss his upcoming title defense this weekend at Sacrifice. Without further ado, I present to you the EBWF World Champion, Mr. PJ Black."
.thevoice//JIM_ROSS
JR held his hand out as he announced PJ Black. PJ gave him a nod in acceptance of the introduction. Ross continued with his first inquiry.
"Now PJ, I've been out of the interviewing scene for quite some time now. Out of all the capable interviewers we have on our staff, why did you personally come up to me and ask for this favor?"
.thevoice//JIM_ROSS
"JR, it's simple. To steal a certain someone's catchphrase, in this room. In the whole interview area of this business, you JR, you are "The Realest Guy in the Room" and that's no lie. So with what I want to say tonight. I wanted it to be you to get the real scoop."
.darewolf//PJ_BLACK
"You sound like you have a lot to get off you chest."
.thevoice//JIM_ROSS
"More than we probably have time for. I know you're a busy my JR, and I appreciate you taking the time out of your schedule to take this interview with me."
.darewolf//PJ_BLACK
"The pleasure is all mine for sure."
.thevoice//JIM_ROSS
With the pleasantries aside, JR adjusted in his seat as he ready himself to ask his first question.
"As I said at the start, this Sunday you defend your championship against Enzo Amore. I quick young upstart in EBWF who is rising through the ranks rather quickly. Now you were suppose to defend your championship against "The Rated R Superstar" Edge, but he handed his title shot over to Enzo based on the fact that two weeks ago on Warfare, Enzo defeated you in a non-title match."
.thevoice//JIM_ROSS
Black nodded as JR repeated the events that happened on this past Warfare.
"Why do you think Edge gave up his shot in place of Enzo?"
.thevoice//JIM_ROSS
"Honestly JR, that's a question that you're going to have to ask Edge, because honestly, I have no idea. I could give the cocky answer and say that it's because Edge is scared of me, but you've known the man longer than I have and you know Edge is not one to just walk away from a match. A title match at that. But the fact that Edge stepped aside to give the match to Enzo, it pisses me off."
.darewolf//PJ_BLACK
"Why is that?"
.thevoice//JIM_ROSS
"It's a disrespect to me, and a disrespect to this championship. Edge, like him or hate him, he earned the shot. He beat Randy and Miz, as much of an achievement that is these days, but regardless. He won the match, and he should be going to Sacrifice to face me. But no, this past week he thinks that he can go and play General Manager and hand his title shot off to Enzo Amore like it's a baton in a relay race. What does that show for this champion, let alone this company?"
.darewolf//PJ_BLACK
"You don't think that Enzo is worthy of a championship shot?"
.thevoice//JIM_ROSS
"This has nothing to do with being worthy or not.
This is about the principle of this championship. To be the EBWF World Champion, it means you earned it.
Look at me. I worked my ass off to get where I am and to get what I have. I didn't just walk out, speak some gibberish and have someone come out and hand me a title shot. No, I went over a year as the EBWF Path to Glory Champion, making that belt mean something again. Then, because of the showing that I showed at the Royal Rumble, I earned my shot inside the Elimination Chamber. Then inside that chamber, I gave it my all to beat the five other men to earn this championship. Do you see the common denominator there? I earned it all.
Enzo this past week, he didn't earn anything."
.darewolf//PJ_BLACK
"A lot of people would disagree with you and say that his victory over you two weeks ago earned him a shot."
.thevoice//JIM_ROSS
"Down the road, sure, I would have loved to have given him his rightful title opportunity. See JR, I have no problem defending my title against Enzo. Honestly, I'm glad that I'm defending it against him because my title reign, it's a new beginning. No more of this passing the championship around to the same old glory hogging has-beens that continue to try to make themselves relevant in this business. I'm a fresh face to this championship, and sure, I'm not everyone's pick to be the champ, obviously. But the fact still remains. I earned this championship, and whether they like it or not, I am the champion and I have no plans on letting it go. Not at Sacrifice to Enzo Amore and not anytime after that. Just like I did with the Path to Glory Championship, I plan on make my mark with this championship."
.darewolf//PJ_BLACK
"Your reign as the EBWF Path to Glory Championship was very impressive, but it hasn't been given the credit that you feel it deserves."
.thevoice//JIM_ROSS
Black shook his head as he agreed with JR's statement.
"No, it hasn't. Just like me, everyone thinks that it was a joke. They criticize me because I didn't cash it in and try for the EBWF World Championship sooner, but you see JR, I wasn't going for that. That's what people don't understand. Sure the goal of the Path to Glory Championship was to win it, cash it in, and go for the World Championship, but you see,
I didn't need it for that. And I proved that when I won this belt without cashing in the Path to Glory Championship. I'm not about doing things the easy way around here and cashing it in would have been the easy thing. Holding onto the Path to Glory Championship for as long as I did, that takes more than just going and cashing it in. So let everyone think that I was stupid for going about things the way I did. But doing so,
I became the "Longest Reigning, and Unbeaten, Undisputed Path to Glory Champion in EBWF History" and that can never be taken away from me. No one, and I mean no one, will be able to do with that championship,
or the Gateway Champion now, that I did with it. So all my colleagues, they can say I'm stupid. They can say that I was scared to cash it in. They can say whatever they want, but it doesn't change what I did.
It doesn't change the fact that you're looking at the man that has single handedly changed the landscape of this company."
.darewolf//PJ_BLACK
"Care to elaborate on that?"
.thevoice//JIM_ROSS
"On changing the landscape of this company?"
.darewolf//PJ_BLACK
JR answered with a nod.
"Before me, we saw the same people trading the EBWF World Championship back and forth like it was part of the Pokemon Trading Card Game. They liked to keep it among themselves because why not? But I put an end to that. No one wanted me to be, or even thought I would ever be the champion, but here I am sitting across from you. I'm not a player in the card game.
I didn't send out a Charizard to trade for this belt. No, I worked my way up from literally the bottle of the pile. Each week, I fought my way to a victory. I went all out every single time it mattered and I did this. I threw all the cards on the floor and I took all the players out of the game. I did it so new faces could step up to the plate. New faces would be in the main event picture. I did that. Not Sami Zayn. Not Samoa Joe. Not Alex Riley. Not even Jimmy Havoc, even though he likes to think that he's the best thing going in this company. I'm the one that stepped up to the plate when it matter and I choked up on the bat and I smashed the ball out of park. With me winning this World Championship, I broke the glass ceiling.
Hell I broke the entire glass house that had always kept guys like me down. And now, guys like me. Guys like Enzo and Jimmy. Now they have the opportunity to do something because I made it so."
.darewolf//PJ_BLACK
"You don't think that you're getting a little high on yourself?"
.thevoice//JIM_ROSS
"JR, everyone in this company from the grunt workers putting together the ring to the corporate big wigs sitting a few floors up from us, they think I'm worthless. They don't think that I belong. I shouldn't be champion. Just like my opponent and my former opponent. They think that I'm boring and I should just stop. Which believe me, the thought crossed my mind.
I mean how long to you think someone can go when everyone dogs on them? When not a single person in this place commends me for the things that I've done. Do you think that when I broke the record as the longest reigning Path to Glory Champion, I got a congratulations? A good job? What about when I won the EBWF World Championship for my first time. Do you think anyone said that I deserved it? Do you think anyone gave me any kind of credit? No, not a single person from this company gave me a pat on the back and said good job.
I've done nothing but put my time, my energy, my heart into everything that I have done to get me to where I am and all I've gotten in return is being called boring. Being told that I suck. Being told that I'm shit.
So yeah, I thought about taking this championship and just walking out. I thought about going somewhere else where people might actually give me some kinda credit for all the hard work that I put in week after week, month after month, match after match. I thought about just leaving."
.darewolf//PJ_BLACK
"But you didn't."
.thevoice//JIM_ROSS
"I didn't because then all of them win. I didn't because then they can all go and play in their little groups and once again ruin this company by passing the championship around in a circle of Hot Potato. I didn't leave because I know if I did, everyone would just talk and say that they were right and I don't belong. I didn't leave because I didn't bust my ass in this place to let some people who think they're better, run me off because of a few words. The funny thing is JR,
all these people that say I suck. All the people that say I don't belong. All of them that say that I shouldn't be champion. They all continue to talk. No matter what I do or what I've done, they continue to talk. But the thing is, none of them, not a single one, has been able to stop me. They haven't been able to put their money where their mouth is and step up and show me that I don't belong. Instead, I go out to that ring and I make my own statement by beating them and continuing this dominating streak that I'm on. Don't you think if I sucked as bad as they all say, one of them would step up and finally stop me?"
.darewolf//PJ_BLACK
Black shrugged his shoulders as he ended his comments. JR continued the interview by attempting to get back on topic.
"It sounds like you have a lot of built up frustration. That could detrimental to your match this Sunday."
.thevoice//JIM_ROSS
"JR, these frustrations have been inside me long before I became the World Champion. Honestly, I've felt this way this I first walked into this place.
But it makes no difference to me. I know how good I am. I know my limits and I know when to push those limits. So this Sunday, you don't have to worry about any frustrations getting in my way when I go out there to defend my championship against Enzo. When I get out into that ring, I know what I have to do and I know what it's going to take to win the match. The politics that go on in the back, they don't mean anything out in that ring. In that ring, the real PJ Black comes out and takes things to entirely new level. The real question you should be asking is if Enzo Amore is really ready for that."
.darewolf//PJ_BLACK
"He does hold a victory over you. He might be able to handle better than you think."
.thevoice//JIM_ROSS
"That right there JR. That's the horseshit that I've been hearing since even before Enzo beat me two weeks ago. Havoc, he's been barking up that tree since the one time he beat me. He thinks that if he would have gotten a shot at the Path to Glory Championship sooner, I would have lost it to him. But see JR, I don't call myself "Big Match Black" for nothing. I do it because when the match means something, and isn't some lower card on Warfare, I show up to win. Let all these people think that their victories over me on all the Warfare mean something, but it doesn't. Now show me someone that has stepped up and beat me at a Pay Per View, in a title match, when it truly matters.
Thing is, you can't. You can't because when it's all said and done, win or lose at Warfare, I step up when it matter. I step up on the big stages. Which is what I'm going to do this Sunday at Sacrifice against Enzo.
Him and Trent, they think that they have this in the bag because Enzo was able to beat me on Warfare.
What was said? I was made to look like an amateur or something like that? Isn't it funny that I've been on this dominate run for over the last year and a half and I lose once and I'm an amateur. But like I said,
I've been dealing with this shit since I walked into this place and I'm not about to let it start affecting what I do in that ring now. So Enzo, Havoc, Edge, and whoever else likes to run their mouth. When you're ready, step up when it really matters and see just how you fair."
.darewolf//PJ_BLACK
"Any last words on your title defense against Enzo? The floor is yours."
.thevoice//JIM_ROSS
"I think that I've done enough talking, and I think that I wasted enough of your time JR. Anything else that I have to say to Enzo, I'll say it to him face to face inside that ring when I stand across from him."
.darewolf//PJ_BLACK
JR gave a nod as the two men stood up. They shook hands before the camera feed cut out and the screen went black.
ENZ... NO
JULY 30, 2017
SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA
SACRIFICE CAMERAS
Sacrifice was going full blast as the camera cut from ringside abruptly and took the EBWF Universe backstage where they instantly let out a loud boo. Their distaste could only mean one thing, PJ Black stood in the center of the screen. The painted cinder block wall of the hallway could be seen behind him. He gave a cocky smirk before he begun to talk.
"Nice to see all of you too..."
.darewolf//PJ_BLACK
He rolled his eyes as he continued.
"Now that I have your attention, there's a few things that I would like to get off my chest. And no ladies, it's not my brand new, PJ Black "Fear Nothing"
t-shirt that you can only get at shopEBWF.com. Instead, I would like to talk about that little runt of a "gangsta", Enzo Amore. Sure, I'm not that much taller, but look at the guy. He looks like her could have easily been born premature.
But that's besides the point. What I want to say is that Enzo, you think that you're something now don't you? I mean look at you, you're the prefect story for a Dreamworks film."
.darewolf//PJ_BLACK
Black paused as he prepared himself for the next bit. In a deeper, monotone voice, Black narrated his words like in a movie trailer.
"Underdog. Victim of electroshock. New Jersey.
Got handed a title shot and now... Has a chance to be World Champion."
.darewolf//PJ_BLACK
Black cleared his throat before returning to his normal voice.
"Look, you could become the feel good story here tonight, but face it. It's not going to happen.
Enzo, you think since you beat me a few weeks ago that you're on a roll. You think that you're something,
and of course, just like you thought before the match, you think that I'm nothing. But see, that's where you're wrong Enzo. If I haven't said it a million times already in the last couple of weeks. Just because you beat me, don't make you better than me. It just doesn't.
You winning on Warfare was just that. It was you winning on Warfare. It's nothing special and it's not something that you should get yourself worked up on. It's definitely not something that you should have been handed a title shot for, but we can just blame that on Edge taking one too many shots to the head over his long career."
.darewolf//PJ_BLACK
Black rolled his eyes as he paused for a split second.
"The point I'm trying to make Enzo is it was Warfare. No body brings their best to Warfare, and if you do, you're just plain stupid. You're stupid that you choose to bring your A-game to a B-stage. That would be like a bride wearing her wedding dress to the rehearsal dinner. It don't make sense and you're stupid for doing it.
But unlike a lot of other guys in my shoes Enzo, I'm not making excuses. I'm not going to say the light was in my eye or I had the flu. They'd all be a lie. The truth is, you beat me. Plain and simple. Nothing fancy.
You won, I loss.
But that don't make you better than me. If that was the case then I would be better than the entire roster almost, because let's face it. I've beaten nearly all of them. But you know none of them think that I'm better than them, though by your logic, they should. So do you see what I'm trying to get at here Enzo?"
.darewolf//PJ_BLACK
He took a deep breathe before he continued.
"Tonight, I'm going to show you just what I'm about.
I'm not about the small games like Warfare. Not even close. My game, I'm all about right there. The big time. I do my best work in front of millions, not thousands like you Enzo. And tonight, I'm going to do just that when we meet up in the middle of that ring. I'm going to show you that I make it my everything to be the best when it matters most and tonight, out there. When my championship is on the line in front of millions. I am untouchable. I am unstoppable. I'm just plain, unbeatable.
So just like I tell everyone. Enzo bring Trent. Bring your microphone lightsaber. Bring Ma'mazo. Bring anyone that you like. The outcome will remain the same and at the end of the night, you Enzo. You're going to be Enz... No. And I will walk out, still your EBWF World Champion because..."
.darewolf//PJ_BLACK
He took a pause and then continued with a smirk.
"I'm the best in this business. Hands down.
There is no second guessing it. I've beaten everyone that stepped up to me. I could give you the list but if you all don't know it by now then you're never gonna get it. They've all stepped up and they've all gotten knocked back down in their place and you Enzo, you're not going to be any different.
In your head, you might think so. You might think that you have what it takes to take me down, finally.
But Enzo, a lot better men have tried and a lot better men have failed.
I'm starting to feel like your local butcher shop. You know, with that number machine. Everyone on the roster can step up and take a number. Just step up, grab a number, and wait til it's your turn to step in the ring with me. I mean, what else can I say, I'm ready for any and all comers, so Enzo, I don't like how you got your shot, but you're up next. So I'm calling your number. Time for you to step up to me and really see what I can do inside those ropes. I hope that you're prepared, it's not going to turn out like last time. You're not going to get the win. This isn't Warfare, this is Sacrifice. This is my time. This is my stage."
.darewolf//PJ_BLACK
The crowd booed but Black paid no attention to him.
"So tonight Enzo, after I beat you and I'm standing over you lifeless body. I'll stare down at you and I'm gonna ask you one question...
HOW YA DOIN'?!"
.darewolf//PJ_BLACK
Black gave one last smirk before he walked off camera. The show returned from ring as Sacrifice returned to the action.
